Added To List
Of Cincinnati’s Missing In Korean Fighting
Both Soldiers “Engaged In Delaying Action,”
Parents Informed In Messages.
The second and third Greater Cincinnati soldiers reported by the Defense Department yesterday as missing in action in Korea are Pfc. Jack Owens, 18, son of Mrs. Ruby Hines, 404 E. 18th St. and Pfc. Kenneth Hollon, 20, son of Mr. And Mrs. Larkin Hollon, 104 Broadway, Loveland.
Both messages stated the soldiers were missing “while engaged in delaying action of the enemy while his organization made a strategic withdrawal” Both have been missing since July 5.
Private Owens was a boyhood companion of Pvt. Vernon Wade, 911 Walnut St., listed as missing Monday.
In his last letter home, Private Owens wrote from Japan, saying he was a radio switchboard operator with an artillery unit. The letter, mailed June 12, was received by his mother a week later.
He enlisted last August and was sent to Japan. Private Wade and Private Owens once were next-door neighbors and went to school together at Rothenberg Junior High School.
Private Hollon attended Loveland High School quitting in his junior year in 1948 to join the Army. He has been overseas since last spring. His father is owner of the Loveland Cab Co.
His last letter home indicated he was preparing for a furlough in Japan.
